Summary

For the last six years I have worked in direct patient care in the healthcare industry, and for the last three as a Float Pool RN at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, MA.  As a Float Pool Nurse, I have been trained for, and practice in, not only the general med/surg floors, but also in the hospital's cardiac, psychiatric, substance abuse rehab and critical care stepdown units (including care of mechanically ventilated patients).

Prior to this experience, I worked for twenty years in the IT field with a primary focus in real-time financial systems as a system architect, interface designer and project manager.  I am currently searching for a position in Healthcare Informatics that will combine these two skill sets.  I believe that my unique work history, combining intensive work both in Healthcare and Information Technology, makes me an ideal candidate for such a position.

In particular, I seek a position that will leverage my knowledge of:

bullet

The patient care cycle

bullet

What functions and information doctors, nurses and support staff need from computerized systems

bullet

How to capture the business requirements that allow for the leverage of computer systems to improve work flows

bullet

How to devise intuitive, task-appropriate user-interfaces to speed user confidence and reduce helpdesk load.

bullet

How to produce clear, unambiguous product definition documents that are understandable to all project stakeholders (e.g., business agents, software developers, operations, legal, compliance).

bullet

How to manage products’ overall life-cycle including the product architecture, design, development, user teaching, testing, roll-out and maintenance phases.

bullet

How to produce product technical documentation and user guides to reduce training time for new technical and end-user staffs.

Sample IT Projects

Performed as Business Analyst, designer and developer of a web-based, medical database for the collection of treatment and treatment result data for ITP

Performed as principal Business Analyst for a multi-currency forward foreign-exchange trading system.  Work involved extensive interaction with end-users to fully capture the complexities and subtleties of the trading instruments and business functions.  Also interacted intensively to verify the workability of the proposed interface within the workplace environment. Performed as the primary liaison between the broking staff and the technical staff.

Performed as Business Analyst, designer and developer of various medical research and patient tracking database systems (e.g. pancreatic cancer treatment protocol efficacy analysis.  Projects employed MS-Access and extensive use of Visual Basic for Access.
