Summary

I currently am working as the Informatics Nurse and QA Specialist for the Epidemiology Informatics Studies Management Unit of Yeshiva University’s Albert Einstein College of Medicine’s Department of Epidemiology and Public Health. For the six years prior I worked in direct patient care in the healthcare industry, most recently as a Nursing Office Float RN at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, MA. Before these experiences, I worked for twenty years in the IT field with a primary focus in real-time systems as a system architect, interface designer and project manager.

My current positioncombines my extensive IT and Healthcare skill sets. In particular, I believe my past experiences provide me with a unique blend of experiences regarding:

    Ø The patient care cycle

Ø What functions and information researchers, doctors, nurses and support staff need from computerized systems

Ø How to capture the healthcare workflow and research study requirements that allow for the highly leveraged of use computer systems in these activities

Ø How to devise intuitive, task-appropriate user-interfaces to improve accuracy data entry

Ø How to produce clear, unambiguous product definition documents that are understandable to all project stakeholders (e.g., medical staff, researchers, software developers, operations, legal, compliance).

Ø How to manage products’ overall life-cycle including the product architecture, design, development, user teaching, testing, roll-out and maintenance phases.

Ø How to produce product technical documentation and user guides to reduce training time for new technical and end-user staffs.

Sample IT Projects

Provided medical expertise along with my technical computer skills in refining systems that track NCI authorized cancer treatment studies and providing the necessary reporting tools for the research.  Tasks included interacting with staff at each of the ten different study sites to manage the timely entry of data as well as specification and management of the development of tools to ensure the quality of the data.  Development was primarily in T-SQL as well as in MS-Access.

Performed the needed research for indentification of cohorts from hospital database systems for possible research proposals.  Work included both use of institution specific query tools and SSRS and MS-Access/VBA for reporting on results.  Work included both AIDS and cancer related research.

Performed as Business Analyst, designer and developer of a web-based, medical database for the collection of treatment and treatment result data for ITP

Performed as principal Business Analyst for a multi-currency forward foreign-exchange trading system.  Work involved extensive interaction with end-users to fully capture the complexities and subtleties of the trading instruments and business functions.  Also interacted intensively to verify the workability of the proposed interface within the workplace environment. Performed as the primary liaison between the broking staff and the technical staff.
